Then try to become a noun. This video is entertaining and educational. I certainly hope I’m objectified, too. “Check out my sweet, new D’Emilio!” or “I think I’ll wear a D’Emilio today.” That sounds a little creepy, actually. Ok, that’s probably not gonna happen. Do you want to become an eponym?

It’s been a lot of fun posting videos here for the month of September. Can’t believe it’s over already! Thanks again to the HSA crew for inviting me on board. Cheers!

Soundlapse…like a timelapse, but with sound?

When writing this post, I was stumped as the what to call this style of video. It’s not a mashup or a remix since it’s composed of original recordings to an original tune. And it not really a collage, stopmotion, or timelapse. I suppose one could categorize it as found sound since the audio is taken from every day life, but the topic is so focused that I’ve concluded that soundlapse really is the best terminology.

Regardless of what you call this type of video, it’s clearly awesome. The sounds of the multi-line desk phones and janky old elevator really embody the chaos of working in an open office in New York City.

Our love of My Drunk Kitchen’s Hannah Hart is well-documented. What’s also probably not as well-documented (but should be readily apparent by now) is our undying love of puns. However, had you told us that Hannah’s next move as a rising youtube star is would be to complete one-half of a puntastic song called “Show Me Where Ya Noms At,” we would have been…skeptical.

The good news is that there’s nothing to be skeptical of here – song and the video are both well-done, remarkably cute, surprisingly catchy, and actually laugh-out-loud funny at times. Songs To Wear Pants To provides the other half of the rhythm and rhyme, but what really stands out is how impressive Hannah’s vocal prowess actually is across a rather broad swath of musical styles. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself singing it to yourself later today.

Ole Salomonsen’s timelapse video of the Northern Lights shot in and around Tromsø, Norway. Ole recently won first runner up in the Royal Observatory Greenwich 2011 Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition. There are three great shorts about three astrophotographers from the competition here, each worth your view:

Ole: the quest for aurorae

Nicole: the blue hour

Damian: far from everyday life

Continuing our (apparent) Time Travel Makes Everything Better theme this week, I present one of the mainstays of the genre: Back To The Future. Kind of.

I dunno, call me nostalgic, but there’s something so charmingly compelling about this video. It’s simple in concept: Take the skateboard scene from Back To The Future, remove the audio, and substitute your own. In practice though, it involves replacing the effects, the dialogue, and yes, even the music. In this case, Matt Mulholland is well familiar with the rigors of mimicking all manner of auditory necessities (see his redub of The Matrix’s famous lobby scene for just one example) and what you end up with is something that’s refreshing in both its familiarity and its uniqueness.

Or maybe I’m just a sucker for all things mashup, lipdub, acapella, or BTTF.
